Phase Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 6, 2026

Applies to: Phase 1.1

Phase is a local-first interval timer. It does not create user accounts, run advertising or analytics SDKs, or transmit workout or personalization content to the developer. Phase has no developer-operated server, and app updates reach customers only through App Store-reviewed releases.

Data stored on your device

Phase stores the following information locally so its features work:

This information remains on the device unless you export it. Phase has no account or synchronization service that receives it.

Location and distance

When GPS distance is enabled for an outdoor workout, Phase accesses precise location while that workout is active, including when the app is backgrounded or the phone is locked. Location is processed on the device to calculate distance. Phase saves the resulting distance totals, but it does not save a route or transmit location to the developer or a workout-syncing service.

During an active workout, the temporary distance recovery record contains the rolling totals and the last accepted coordinate so measurement can continue after interruption. That coordinate is removed when distance is finalized and is never included in an exported backup. GPS distance can be turned off for ordinary workouts; a distance-finish Journey requires it because the full advertised distance is the completion condition.

Audio and background operation

During an active workout, Phase uses background audio so spoken countdown and phase cues continue when the app is backgrounded or the phone is locked. The app does not use the microphone and does not record audio.

Backup export and import

Export creates a JSON file containing the local Phase data described above and opens the operating system share sheet. Phase sends the file only to the destination the user chooses. Import reads a user-selected Phase backup and replaces the data sections included in that file.

An exported backup is controlled by the user and by the selected storage or sharing provider. Deleting Phase does not delete copies saved elsewhere.

Retention and deletion

Saved local data remains until the user deletes individual content, replaces it by importing a backup, clears application storage, or uninstalls Phase. Active timer and distance recovery data is retired after the workout is completed, stopped, or discarded. A journey milestone that has already been earned is kept when the individual workout behind it is deleted from History.

Third-party services

Phase includes Expo and React Native libraries required to provide app functionality, but it does not use Expo’s hosted update, notification, analytics, or runtime services. The production app does not contact Expo when it launches. Every app update is delivered in a new binary reviewed through the App Store.

The app does not include developer-configured advertising, analytics, tracking, account, or cloud-storage services. Apple may separately process App Store purchases, TestFlight activity, diagnostics, or crash information under Apple’s own terms and privacy policy.

Contact and changes

If Phase’s data practices change, this policy and the App Store privacy answers will be updated before the changed version is released.
